Tosin
(1932-1990)
In 1932 Tarcisio Tosin opened his studio in Venice and named it La Freccia de Tarcisio Tosin. (The Arrow of Tarcisio Tosin) He chose the arrow as his trademark because to him it represented the ability to “fly through space and time in order to hit the target and therefore contained all the elements expressed by the ‘Futurisimo’ movement”. The arrow summed up Tosin’s artistic style of free flowing modern design that was termed by Italians as “Aeroceramica”.
That first year, 1932, he won the gold medal in the annual exhibition of the Veneto Institute of Arts and Craft. This brought him immediate recognition in the art world.
Two years later, in 1934, Tosin entered into an exclusive agreement with a Milan wholesaler, Faone Scardin. As part of that agreement the initials “FS” had to be added to the Tosin trademark to show that Scardin was the exclusive outlet for Tosin’s artwork. The end of World War II also brought an end to the Scardin/Tosin partnership. Tosin died in 1990 and his son, Ferdinand, now operates the studio.
